The 2013 Syrah Klein got a big 'wow' in the notes and from a difficult vintage for Syrah, it’s an incredible blockbuster, full-bodied beauty that readers should beg, borrow or steal to get a hold of. Giving up layers of kirsch, blackberries, graphite, lavender and dried earth, this puppy hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, silky texture and fine tannin that keeps the finish going. I love it. (JD)
The aromas start out reticent, with notes of black licorice, kirsch, black olive and earth along with some barrel notes. The flavors are bold, full and palate coating, and are capped off by a lengthy finish. (SS)
Good dark red. Deeply pitched aromas of plum, currant and graphite communicate the wine's Merlot component. Plush, full and fine-grained, offering fresh red berry flavors complicated by mocha and sage. Finishes with dusty tannins and good grip. The crop level here is consistently tiny, according to Brennan Leighton--barely three-quarters of a ton per acre in a successful year. This intriguing blend has some power. (ST)
The tannins swarm around a solid core of blueberry and plum fruit, veering toward toffee and wet earth notes as the finish pushes past the texture and persists. Best after 2019 (HS)
