As for the 2013 Merlot Reserve Mailbox Vineyard, this is 95% estate Merlot and 5% estate Cabernet Franc. This shows beautiful fruit, medium to full body, more layers of concentration and interest than the basic Merlot. The wine has excellent purity, loads of black cherry and mocha notes, along with darker berry fruit. It’s full-bodied, ripe and pure and at the same time never loses its sense of elegance or equilibrium. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. (RP)
The 2013 Merlot Reserve Mailbox Vineyard, from Keenan's Spring Mountain estate vineyard, is another jewel of a wine. Powerful and explosive in style, the 2013 opens up to reveal multiple layers of fruit backed up by formidable tannins that need a few years to soften. Still, there is a sense of creaminess and intensity here that makes me think the 2013 will drink well earlier than most wines in this vintage. Once again, Keenan has produced a Merlot with real pedigree and class. This is a gorgeous wine. (AG)
Smooth and accented by dried herb, this wine is tart in currant and lush in chocolate, offering a wide spectrum of aroma and flavor. Medium bodied, it picks up power and concentration on the finish, allowing for a ripeness to strike last. (VB)
