The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes has a very intriguing, slightly medicinal bouquet that unfolds gently in the glass. The palate is rounded on the entry with white pepper and dried orange peel infusing the structured black fruit. There is an appreciable density to the Chambolle-Musigny with a long grippy finish that suggests it will be one of the domaine’s longest lasting wines. This is a great Chambolle. (NM)
A classic Chambolle nose of ultra-elegant and cool essence of red berry fruit and soft spice nuances. There is a lacy and satiny mouth feel to the detailed and lightly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that firms up and the moderately deep and persistent finish. At present this is pretty rather than deep though the underlying material is such that my instincts suggest that more is on the way.
Scented and high toned. Very smooth and seductive. Mouthfilling and beautifully balanced. Maybe not that powerful but gorgeous. So long! 17.5/20 points (JR)
