Tasting Notes

The Grande Cuvée from Antech is a blend of 50% Chardonnay, 40% Chenin Blanc and 10% Mauzac. In 2010, the winemakers liked the vintage so much they set aside a portion of the wine for for extended sur latte aging. This was disgorged after six years of aging.

This bouncy sparkling wine is alive with creamy texture and a very pretty white flower nose. On the palate, stone fruits and creme brulee and a nice, peachy finish. Easy to drink on its own or with charcuterie.

This Antech is their Tête de Cuvée for sure. The aromatics are more reminiscent of a bottle of Champagne, and the rich, creamy palate shows a lot of elegance. It is richer, and more complex than the Eugenie, and yet still retains a delicate mouthfeel. I was delighted to try the Oublié.

This is a new project for an old favorite producer! Antech's "Grande Cuvee Oublie" is literally a "forgotten" wine, as the title suggests. In other words, this wine has been left to age on the lees for almost 6 years, a very unusually long time for a Cremant de Limoux. The result is a lovely, full, creamy texture, with plenty of weight and more autolytic characteristics than is common in these wines. That said, the wine still retains very open, floral and fruit tinged aromas which carry through to the palate. Overall, an incredibly complex and beautiful wine for the price!
