(Boillot vinified this wine with 30% whole clusters, describing it as an experiment): Good bright red. Slightly peppery aromas of spicy red berries and black cherry lifted by a subtle floral topnote. Salty, tactile and concentrated, displaying lovely savory depth and inner-mouth tension. Shows the medicinal quality of classic young Clos Vougeot without any hard edges. Finishes with nicely refined tannins and noteworthy lingering flavor.
Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is more fruit-forward on the nose with ebullient raspberry and wild strawberry aromas, a pleasant touch of reduction that recedes with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannin, the fleshy cassis-tinged fruit offset by a fine thread of acidity, leading to an energetic and virile finish. This should give plenty of drinking pleasure over the next decade. Tasted September 2016. (NM)
Tasted blind. Dark cherry red. Already some evolution on the nose. Masses of bright fruit on the palate. Energetic and charming. An undertow of flattering redcurrant fruit. Clean and fresh.
