Pale-medium yellow. Subdued but complex aromas of fresh fruit cocktail, mango, menthol and sweet spices. Then rich, spicy and precise in the mouth, with fresh tropical and citrus fruit flavors. A lovely, elegantly styled, nicely balanced wine that is less rich and sweet than usual. This will match well with many scallop, shrimp, carrot and pumpkin dishes. (ID)
Barrel Sample. Very tightly textured, this wine is closed, only slowly revealing its power and complexity. The acidity is strongly present, offering freshness at the end.
The Chateau Lafaurie Peyraguey has a mineral-led, citrus-driven bouquet that is tightly wound at first—delicate touches of orange blossom and apricot emerging from the glass. The palate is well-balanced and attired with a mellifluous, spicy entry. There is certainly good weight and concentration here, the finish long and satisfying, perfectly controlled. This is always a dark horse Sauternes and in 2013 they have produced something a little bit special. (NM)
A full and concentrated young Sauternes with lots of botrytis spice character such as dried mushrooms and nutmeg. It's full body, medium sweet with a wonderful length of fruit and intense acidity. It's layered and fascinating. Lots of dried fruits too. Sliced dried mango and pineapple.
Packed, with dense, creamy layers of glazed pear and green fig, tarte Tatin, marmalade and almond cream. Despite its weight, this brings you back over and over thanks to its well-embedded acidity. Impressive and very long. Seems the new owner (Silvio Denz) is off to a good start here. (Web Only—2014)
