While from a vineyard that’s no more than a stone’s throw from Dr. Crane, just outside of St. Helena, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard is an entirely different beast than a wine from that great site and offers a more feminine, ethereal style that carries gorgeous red and black fruits, flowery incense, exotic spices, graphite, and ample earthy, rocky minerality. Nevertheless, it’s the floral character as well as the prettier, more seamless style on the palate that set it apart from the Dr. Crane releases. Flawlessly balanced and full-bodied, with incredible length, this borderline perfect Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon can be drunk today or cellared for 20-25 years or more. Drink through 2045.
A real killer effort is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard. This shows nice, gravelly, earthy notes intermixed with a floral component, blackberry and blueberry, a sensationally saturated purple color and fabulous opulence and richness. Once again, this is a great effort and a pretty fair price point for a Beckstoffer Vineyard-sourced wine. This should drink well for 15-20 years. Drink through 2035. (RP)
So much eucalyptus in the nose with blackberry and white pepper. Full body, round and silky tannins and a bright and fresh finish. Chewy and serious. Fantastic finish. A super wine with focus from the Las Piedras Vineyard.
