The 2008 Petite Sirah has a wickedly opaque blue/purple color and a tight but promising nose of acacia flowers, blueberries and blackberries. In the mouth, it is still grapey, tasting more like a barrel sample than a finished wine. It shows surprisingly sweet tannins for a Petite Sirah but is actually very civilized. This wine should become more drinkable in 5 years and last for 20 or more. (RP)

Saturated ruby. Pungent aromas of briary blackberry, chocolate, pepper and spices. High-toned, fruity and rich but not over the top, with dark berry and chocolate flavors dominating. This has none of the chalkiness or dryness of many petite sirahs; in fact, in texture it's more syrah-like. Finishes round, rich, palate-saturating and long, with fairly light tannins. This is the last vintage for this bottling, says Foley. (ST)
