This vineyard-designate offers a wealth and breadth of cherry compote and orange peel, alluring on both the nose and palate, with a light sprinkling of Asian spice. Full bodied, it carries itself with determined grace and finesse, enjoyable now and yet teasing in complexity. *Cellar Selection* (VB)
From a vineyard planted in 1989, the 2014 Pinot Noir River Block is a Rochioli selection. This wine offers loads of minerality, a deep ruby purple color, more tannin and structure than some of its siblings, and seems to beg for more patience, as it comes across as more backward and closed. Forget it for 1-2 years and drink it over the following 10-12. (RP) 94+
The 2014 Pinot Noir River Block, from vines planted on gravel-rich alluvial soils, is one of the more lifted, aromatically expressive wines in this group of Pinots. Crushed flowers, mint, anise, spices and red berries meld together nicely. Sweet floral and spice notes reappear on the finish, adding further aromatic intensity. (AG)
Impressively elegant and refined without sacrificing flavor, depth or persistence. The core of anise-laced cherry and raspberry notes is supple, pure and caressing. Understated and persistently engaging. (JL)
