K&L Notes

Coralie Onde was from a winemaking family but opted to start her own project independent of her family estate, Domaine les Ondines. In 2008, Coralie formed her new estate in Vacqueyras when she purchased some terrific old vine fruit and also taking a small holding when the family estate was split. With close to 9 hectares now, Coralie began the organic certification process and was officially certified in 2014 Her vines are aged from 15 to 55 years and the soils are primarily chalky-clay with some galet (river stones). The 2015 is about 70% Grenache with 30% Syrah and probably a touch of Cinsault in there since it is co-planted with the oldest Grenache vines. From DrinkRhone.com: "There is a cool, iodine like tint to the bouquet which hums with some plum fruit and soft spicing. It’s a good, serene start. The palate is expressive via spicing and bustling content with slightly rugged tannins that weave hither and thither. This is gutsy, genuine wine with local punch outside its rather tasty black berry fruit. It finishes with a clear clack and some saltiness. Marks for character here. From spring 2018. 2024-25" 3 1/2 Stars (JL-L)

What a scrumptious bottle of wine! Roasted plums, ripe blackberries and raspberries, a hint of black licorice, and spice and herbal notes, this is expressive and bursting with so much flavor and depth — a surefire hit at any dinner table or friendly gathering.

Winemaker Coralie Onde over-delivers with this sexy but supple Vacqueyras. Loads of juicy berry flavors of cherry, roasted plum and dried blueberry are layered on the palate followed by garrigue-y spice that leads to a palate that is full yet deftly balanced. This wine is as charming and exciting as its producer and we can't get enough of it.

The 2015 Ganse does an exquisite job of walking the fine line between power of fruit and elegance of balance. The blend is 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah and its nose leans towards perfume and nuanced spice. The palate shows gracefully restrained ripe plums and figs, managing to keep the wine in balance and expressive. Concentrated and full of latent energy this is a wine I would easily drink tonight, but would only expect to improve in the next 5-10 years.
