Pale gold. Meyer lemon, quince, white flowers and smoky minerals on the lively, incisive nose. Nervy citrus and orchard fruit flavors show very good clarity and a complementary subtle honeysuckle quality. Juicy and precise on the clinging finish, which strongly echoes the mineral and floral notes. Talley's side project, which is not exactly a second label as the wines may include fruit that is sourced from outside Arroyo Grande, is a consistently excellent source for elegant wines that deliver very serious bang for the buck. The Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, in particular, give a glimpse of this iconic Central Coast winery's style for a bargain-bin price, and they age nicely as well. (JR)
A good value that has plenty to love, the 2015 Bishop's Peak Chardonnay (100% Chardonnay brought up in stainless steel and neutral French oak) offers classy notes of apple blossom, salted melon and spice in a lively, straightforward, nicely textured and fresh package. (JD)
