Tasting Notes

Honestly there is not much that we can say about Flowers Vineyards & Winery that even a wine neophyte does not already know. Many times we can use this platform to launch the new, the unheard of or the up-and-coming, but this time we are here to emphasize just how good these wines truly are and how they've continued to get better and more refined over time. There are a lot of people out there, including our staff, that have a preconception of what these wines are -- big, bombastic, full-bore wines that are pushed to one side of the polar scale, but at this point that couldn't be further from the truth. From rosé to Pinot Noir to Chardonnay to their top-end single vineyard efforts, these wines are all about balance, freshness and fruit and have exceptional purity. If you're a Flowers Chardonnay and Pinot fan, their rosé is something you should definitely try this summer. With sourced fruit from top-quality family-owned Sonoma Coast vineyards, this wine stays true to Flowers' cool climate style wines. This is a full-bodied rosé showing notes of raspberries, orange zest, fresh citrus and rose petals all tied in with that well-loved Sonoma Coast acid and minerality.

Right in line with the style of the other Flowers wines, the Pinot Noir Rosé can be described as richly fruited but precise and elegant. You’ll find red fruit flavors like strawberries and red currants with roses, lemon citrus acidity and a creamy rounded texture with great balance and length. It’s probably one of the best domestic rosés on the market.

This is a serious Rosé, for those who appreciate more luxurious, earthy flavors, and is an alternative to the endless parade of bubblegum and strawberry. The Flowers Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir Rosé is full bodied and powerful, made from 100 percent Pinot Noir, with aromas of forest floor, underripe raspberry, white mushroom and wet rock. The palate is very dry, but very lush and mouth coating, with a spicy finish, which makes it a fabulous Rosé to pair with your favorite Summer meal.

Flowers has been making Rose for a few years but never really produced enough to sell outside of their direct-customer base. The wine, to say simply, is exceptional. It offers a glassy salmon color and a nose filled with red berries, ruby-red grapefruit, rose stems and orange blossoms. On the palate, the wine is mouth-watering and tangy, laced more red fruits, citrus and subtle notes of sea foam on the finish. I've always been a fan of Flowers as a whole but this year's releases are something special. Sure, thirty-two bucks is a little steep for a bottle of rose, but once you pull the cork on this wine you'll feel much better about the expenditure.

The 2016 vintage marks the second commercial release of the wineries rosé. From 100% Pinot Noir and all direct press this wine is already at the pinnacle of Domestic Rosé. Full of blood orange, pomegranate seeds, wet stone and raspberry aromas this nose is a symphony of complexity and freshness. As this has spent more time in the bottle I feel like it has fleshed out a bit more every day under cork with a broadening mouthfeel, white strawberry, rhubarb and cherry cola flavors and mouthwatering finishing acidity. While this is certainly one of the most expensive Domestic Rosés we carry we also believe that nobody will scoff at its price tag once they taste it.
