Opaque ruby. Pungent cherry, dark berries and an olive nuance on the spice-accented nose. Sappy, sweet and expansive on the palate, offering energetic blackberry and cherry-vanilla flavors that tighten up slowly with air. Fleshy, seamless and nicely focused, finishing with silky, harmonious tannins, strong back-end thrust and lingering sweetness. (JR)
Emerging winemaker Giovanni Grandinetti is one to watch. In this bottling he blends co-fermented lots of 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache from Bien Nacido and Murmur vineyards to produce aromas reminiscent of venison in a rainbow peppercorn glaze, with touches of tar and crushed graphite. The palate is likewise quite gamy and tarry, with dried beef and teriyaki touches.

Supple, beautifully textured and already hard to resist, drink it anytime through 2021. Made by Giovanni Grandineti, all three of these latest releases are outstanding. (JD)
