An inaugural release for the producer, this wine holds a treasure trove of dense chocolate, raspberry, toasted oak and graham cracker. It's concentrated, big-bodied and juicy. The finish is marked by clove and cedar, with a slight touch of anise. (VB)
Both deeper and more continuous in its fruit and better balanced overall than its ripe-leaning counterpart from the Napa Valley, Crossbarn's Sonoma County Cabernet is a solid, very well-structured effort that plays to precise, curranty fruit. It is firm and a bit rough at the edges as young Cabernet can be, but it has the fruity substance to fill its moderately tannic frame, and it has the right parts in place to find real polish some three to five years down the line.
Another sleeper selection from Paul Hobbs is the CrossBarn 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County. From Sonoma County mountain fruit, there are 2,600+ cases of this outstanding Cabernet. It exhibits notes of damp earth, licorice, asphalt and lots of crème de cassis and espresso. Ripe and full-bodied with sweet tannin and low acidity, it will drink well for a decade or more. (RP)
A striking wine that captures the essence of the year, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Crossbarn (Sonoma) impresses for its overall balance and class. Graphite, smoke, red plums and spices inform the vibrant, polished finish. This is a terrific showing from Crossbarn as well as a poignant reminder of just how delicious Sonoma Cabernets can be. (AG)
