The 2016 Badette is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, the first time that the latter has been used. This has a lovely bouquet with superb delineation, so vivid and lively with ebullient red cherries mixed with strawberry and subtle cassis notes, the 50% new oak neatly integrated. The palate is well balanced with fine, slightly grainy tannin, crisp acidity and a dash of black pepper on the finish. I liked the 2014, I liked the 2015 and guess what? I like the 2016. (NM)
Crushed-stone and chalk character with dark fruit such as blueberries. Medium to full body and chewy tannins. Done.
The 2016 Badette is a striking wine. Dark blue and black fruit, smoke, French oak, chocolate and torrefaction abound in this succulent, extroverted Saint-Émilion. Although not at all subtle, the 2016 is very nicely done in a decidedly plush, sumptuous style. The blend is 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, with the Petit Verdot adding a palpable measure of darkness and intensity. Jean-Philippe Fort is the consultant. Tasted two times.
