Tasting Notes

Jean-Michel is the third Giboulot to head the family estate in Savigny-les-Beaune, having resided over the twelve hectares in Beaune, Pommard, and Savigny since 1982. Recently making the conversion over to organic farming, the wines have become fresher and rounder thanks to more destemming as well. The 2015 vintage might be the best we've yet tasted from the portfolio, one that we've been working with directly now for a number of years.

    The approachable Giboulot wines are the perfect cross over producer. Approachable and affordable aren't typical descriptors for Burgundy. Yet, the entry level Bourgogne is easy and open without feeling to modern or overly extracted. Vibrant red fruit, hibiscus extract and subtle a minerality remind us that it's Burgundy! Great medium body structure keeps this one interesting and the acidity is well integrated so we're not on this laser-beam style we get sometimes with the inexpensive burgs. All in all this is a great value not just for red burgundy but one of the best Pinot values in the store.

    All of the wines from Giboulot's 2015 crop have a juiciness and a concentrated core of dark ripe fruit, beginning with the simple Bourgogne rouge - a wine that combines supple notes of blackberry and cassis with tangy acidity and fine tannins. This is one of the best entry level wines we've carried from Burgundy in years.

    Beautiful cherry fruit and spice notes rise from the glass while the palate is a furthering of intense red cherry notes. Dusty tannins and the lightest of oak notes nicely accent this great entry-level offering.

    Simple, pure and delicious! 100% de-stemmed fruit, no new oak and fermented in open top casks, this is a delicate yet juicy wine that is lively and fresh on the finish. Very food friendly!
