*Editors' Choice* The inaugural release from this négociant winery is a blend of Mourvèdre, Grenache and Syrah. The aromas pop with notes of black pepper, marionberry and herbes de provence. Flavors are fleshy and fruit-forward with a snap of acidity that pulls it all together.
(a Provençal blend of Mourvèdre, Grenache and Syrah; mostly purchased wine but also includes some declassified lots from Avennia): Healthy very dark red. Strong black fruit aromas are complicated and lifted by black pepper, garrigue, licorice, mint and fruity espresso. Pliant, saline and sweet, with an alluring chocolatey nuance to its sweet black fruit flavors; very Provence in style. This concentrated wine finishes with serious but ripe tannins and a lingering note of pepper but is already easy to enjoy. Owners Chris Peterson and Marty Taucher, who are also partners at Avennia, which they established in 2010, recently introduced this new label to offer less-expensive wines--one red and one white--in a Provençal style, from purchased fruit. In their inaugural 2013 vintage, they bottled 400 cases of each. Both are excellent values. (AG)
