Moving from a career in unpalatable petrol to mouthwatering wine over a decade ago proved a very good move for Jacques Coipel, and he and his winemaker son Julien have carried forth with exceptional vintages in the high altitude, cooler vineyards above Valreas. This is a lovely, fragrant and appealing Villages wine that balances ripe red fruits with darker notes of blackberry and licorice, embraced by savory spices, refined tannin and notes of forest floor and garrigue. A charmer, it will complement a dish of grilled, seasoned lamb burgers.
