I thought this wine was amazingly good for the price last vintage and in the 2014 I am even more blown away. Seriously, this is fantastic Chablis for the price. The Venerables showcases a richer rounder style with plenty of ripe orchard fruit, some melon, touches of oak and spice that are still completely balanced by acidity. There is some lovely minerality here has well to add to the complexity and balance of this wine. Easily able to stand up to some heartier dishes this wine also can simply be enjoyed on its own.

The “Les Venerables” from La Chablisienne is a selection of “old vines” from a variety of different vineyards. Average age of the vines used for this blend is 50 years old. The 2014 is very rich and broad in the mouth. It has a creamy, ripe core of fruit and a long, fleshy finish. I would not guess this as a 2014 vintage as it almost comes across as a 2015 with its high level of ripeness. Very delicious!

Great value - riper fruited and texturous, this Chablisienne appears to carry more weight to it than its siblings. Delicious and crisp with ripe bruised apple and pear notes.

This is, to my palate, the best of the 2014 La Chablisienne wines on offer right now. There is a beautifully integrated leesy quality here, but less pronounced than the Mont de Milieu, and the fruit profile still shows classic citrus, but unlike the La Sereine, it veers more toward juicy orchard fruits that give the impression of roundness while avoiding richness. Sweet honey and chalky minerality are both present toward the back end, which, along with the bracing acidity, create a compelling tension that draws the finish out to a very satisfying length. This one is versatile enough to pair with oysters, mussels, flaky white fish, or hell, even fried fish and chips!

I love the richness and the saltiness that comes from this old vine expression from La Chablisienne - my favorite direct import from Chablis. I drink a lot of white wine, mostly from Burgundy, and this particular 2014 caught my fancy (and got my credit card into serious trouble). It has a beautiful balance of white fruit, racy acidity, and texture from the richness of the concentrated old vine grapes. I could wax poetically about all of the Chablisienne wines because each of them represents the uniqueness of a vineyard site. In the case of the Les Venerables, you get the added bonus of complexity from the ancient vines.

Fantastic value in an older vine rich Chablis, the Venerables really shows a great density and weight with a fantastic Chablis stone to the mid palate. Pure and clean with a truly classic Chablis style.
