Plenty of depth to this 2014 Dog Point pinot. It's a boldly stated and concentrated pinot with plenty of detail and interest on offer. The oak delivers plenty of spicy, mocha-tinged complexity, but the rich red-cherry and plum fruit shines through effortlessly. The palate exudes the same confident swagger as the nose, but it's the tannin texture that shines here: Handsome, grainy and long, it carries ripe dark-plum and cherry-fruit flavors in an expansive yet balanced style. Has all you want in a great pinot. Drink now to 2026
Dark, deep, ruby-rd colour with dark purple hues, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is finely concentrated with bright and complex detailed aromas of dark red berry and cherry fruit intermixed with dark herbs and whole cluster aromatic stalk notes and some earthiness, unfolding dark red floral, raspberry liqueur and liquorice elements. Medium-bodied, the palate is refined and tightly concentrated with gently rich and plush flavours of dark red berry fruits, plums and liquorice entwined with spices, herbs and savoury whole cluster stalk elements, as well as violet florals. The wine has fine-grained tannins and structure balancing the sweet fruit, with integrated acidity lending drive and line. The wine carries to a refined, lingering finish of dark fruits and savoury herb and floral detail. This is an elegantly concentrated, rich Pinot Noir with dark berry fruit and complexing herb and spice notes, and a refined structure. Match with pork, lamb, beef and venison over the next 6 years.
The 2014 Pinot Noir (aged 18 months in 50% new French oak) offers a classy, seamless and elegant profile to go with textbook Pinot Noir notes of black cherries, smoke, forest floor, and peppery herbs. This cuvée sees a touch of whole clusters in the ferment but they’re beautifully integrated. It’s drinking nicely today yet I see no reason it won’t continue evolving nicely for at least 7-8 years.
Elegant, plush, plump plum and black cherry flavors are accented by black tea, spice and licorice notes. Gains momentum on the finish, where shadings of cedar and date bread add another level of richness. Drink now through 2026. (MW)
Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Pinot Noir offers a great core of ripe mulberries, black cherries and black raspberry notes with hints of garrigue, lavender and roses. The soft, satiny, medium-bodied palate offers mouth-filling berry flavors, finishing long and perfumed. (LPB)
Lively crimson. Real fan of flavours on the nose - unusual in this context. Very bright Marlborough signature on the palate - another wine that really succeeds within the Marlborough idiom. Very slight coffee note on the end. Long and impressive. Drink 2017-2021. 17/20 Points (JR)
