Tasting Notes

This is a blend of equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier from estate-grown fruit in the Western Valley of the Marne. It is a dry style, with lots of great nutty toast from three years of sur-lee ageing and good length.

This is a stellar addition to our under-$30 Champagne collection. A classic blend of 1/3 each Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier from estate-grown fruit, Thierry Thibault‘s Brut ticks all the right boxes for Champagne: lees aging, toastiness on the nose and through the creamy palate, fine bead, and a crisp yet long finish. That brioche note is typically a quality reserved for much older (read: more expensive) Champagnes, since it’s due to time spent on the lees. But this is already keenly developed here, giving you that coveted breadiness without having to cellar for decades or spend a lot. The complexity - especially at this price - is impressive.

Thierry Thibault expanded our allocation of this excellent Champagne this year... Maybe we will have it in stock for a few days after the email this time! Thierry is the son of one of the giants of Champagne, the late great Daniel Thibault who was chef de cave for both Charles and Piper Heidsieck and pioneered the concept of transparency in non-vintage Champagne with his mis-en-cave bottlings. The estate spans two villages in heart of the western valley of the marne- Verneuil and Passy-Grigny. This Champagne is composed of 1/3 each Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier and is aged for three years on the lees. This is a very bright, fresh style with vibrant acidity, but also with wonderful Chablis-like clean earth and complexity. It has a perfect, tight bead and a creamy texture, as well as a very dry and long finish. I was shocked at the price — this is the kind of value that will not last on our shelves!

Thibault Brut goes for balance consisting of a third each Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier. The nose opens rather floral with honeysuckle and potpourri followed by bright green apple and a little spice. The palate is racy with big citrus acidity, more crisp apple, and huge chunks of chalky minerality. This is a fresh and bold Champagne that can perk up any party.

With a fun, easy flavor profile combined with a classic, sophisticated structure and finesse, the Brut from Thierry Thibault is a great value and a strong candidate for best Sub-$30 champagne in the store. The price-point belays the massive mouthfeel of the clearly well made juice. Right in time for the holidays, this is an easy party champagne!

Fresh and crisp with a wonderful nose, dry and fairly complex, with medium weight and serious crowd pleasing credentials, there is a lot to like about this Champagne. The price certainly seals the deal - and it will be gracing quite a few parties this year!

I've never known Champagne buyer Gary Westby to bring in a direct import wine that wasn't absolutely phenomenal and this one is no exception. The quality here for $30 is somewhat unbelievable. Formerly selling to Charles Heidsieck, Thierry decided to keep the fruit for themselves and make some pretty killer Champagne with it. Made with 30% reserve wine, there is a lovely toastiness here, balanced out by fresh acidity from the 33% Chardonnay. Fans of our direct import Champagnes such as Launois, Aspasie, and Baron Fuente should not miss this one.

This is one well rounded champagne. It's such a crowd-pleaser because it has as little bit of everything -- freshness, richness, fruit and body. Four years on lees, and about 30% reserve wine means this wine has structure, texture and persistence. Ripe apple and toasty brioche aromas with great freshness and nice fleshy texture--this champagne is a slam dunk!

Yay! Our Champagne buyer has picked up another fantastic grower-producer Champagne that drinks well above its price. Thierry Thibault's Brut is beautifully crisp with flavors of white peach, kiwi and granny smith apple with a solid acid backbone and subtle toastiness. This is definitely a bottle of bubbles I'll be stocking in my fridge for the summertime!

This is classic Champagne, the nose is tight, clean focused with an apply tartness softened with a bit of brioche while remaining super clean it's a delight. On the palate the wine is very dry, really tart and shows levels of complexity you generally don’t find in Champagne in this price range. It’s really long, focused and that acidity holds your interest as the complex apple and brioche emerges and gently softens. The finish is remarkably long, direct and boldly lets you know there is no hint of sweetness while spotlighting the complex apple character. Line up your Oysters, this is the wine for them!

Crisp, clean, and refreshing from the first sip, the Thibault Brut came as a shocker when Gary poured me a glass and said "What do you think?" Simply put: I thought it was fantastic! As we're always on the hunt for new grower/producer labels at K&L, the Thibault is another weapon in our sub-$30 Champagne arsenal, alongside wines like Aspasie and Baron Fuente. In comparison, the Thibault is more delicate and light on its feet with nuanced flavors of brioche and citrus.
