The 2nd wine of Sassicaia is perfect for folks who appreciate the fine elegance of a classic Super Tuscan but without the lofty price tag. This has earthy cherry fruit, a woodsy middle of dried flowers and herb and an almost Chianti-like minerality on the fine finish. The dusty berry aromas and flavors are clean, linear and packed with nuance on this precise and focused wine.

The nose of this wine is subtle, sophisticated and understated claret…yes claret; it’s a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot! One notices the refined character of the nose; the aromatics are Cabernet dominant with cassis, herb and earth drifting from the glass. However it is on the palate the one sees the exquisite winemaking skill here, not a piece out of place, long, polished; medium to full-bodied and in its current stage of evolution the wine shows more earth, leather and herb characters. This is Sassicaia’s second wine and you really see the superb lineage, viticultural care and pedigree, when the wine hits your tongue its palate presence is really evident, it is regal, long elegant and subtly austere. Perfect for you New York steak off the grill or with some aged cheese.

Tenuta San Guido "Guidalberto" Toscana, this is one of my favorite producers from Tuscany ( With the Guido, it has to be Bene’ ). This is their "Super Tuscan" - a very user friendly wine, the blend is made with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, and lots of dark skinned fruit with spice, minerals that complete each other on the nose and palate. The wine has pleasantly soft tannins, but good acidity to pull it all together.

I love this latest release from the makers of Sassicaia as it truly expresses the more elegant side of Cabernet and Merlot. Their 2014 is a testament to great winemaking in a more challenging vintage as it is not only aromatic and refined but also very expressive and persistent with juicy black currant fruit, a silky mouth-feel and a lengthy finish. Bordeaux fans will especially appreciate this modern take on a Claret.

Crafted to enjoy while you let your Sassicaia age, Guidalberto has stepped out from the shadow of its Grand Vin in the past few years and become one of Tuscany's most recognizable labels for reliable Bordeaux-inspired blends. The 2014 has a beautiful pure ruby color with aromas of cranberry and a soft touch of vanilla. The palate is lifted with vibrant acidity that highlights pure red fruit and carries a lingering finish. It is rocking and ready to go even at this early stage, and our pricing is one you'll rarely see for this renowned label.
