A soft and fruity wine with lots of berries, hints of lemon rind and walnut character. Medium to full body and a juicy finish.
The 2015 Malbec is very floral and bright mixing grapes from different zones in Mendoza, showcasing the grape in the province. The palate is very elegant, soft, with a fresh note that they tell me might come from some 5% Merlot from Tupungato that is used in the blend. Super! (JG) 91+
(14.5% alcohol; a blend of terroirs): Bright ruby-red. Musky, lightly meaty scents of blackberry, blueberry, mocha and spices; still shows a touch of reduction. Plush, very ripe and chocolatey, with dominant flavors of dark berries, plum, graphite, menthol and spicy oak. Doesn't have quite the class of the Cabernet but sweet, smooth, substantial and alive. The tannins are seamless and fine-grained, and this wine is delicious already. (ST)
First vintage of this wine was 04/05. Fruit from different vineyards. Co-fermented in cement tanks with plenty of pumping over then 10-11 months in 2-year-old barrels to keep fruit and juiciness. Young winemaker Gustavo Rearte noted: ‘Fruit is the principal way to understand our wines’. Yield 8 t/ha. 18,000 cases produced. No acidification. Fermented in cement Mid to deep cherry red. Beautifully fragrant red fruit, mostly red cherry and a touch of spice and of violets but all in moderation to the fruit. On the palate, terrific freshness and that lively fruit to the fore, with definite but smooth tannins. Excellent fruit concentration, mouth-watering finish. Lighter than the wines that came later in this line-up but has fruit to the fore. Really dense fruit but light on its feet. (JH) *Good Value*
