The 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois is also a single vineyard cuvee and is 100% Grenache. It’s always has a more fruit forward feel than the more structured Barbe Rac and offers gorgeous notes of sweet black cherries, black raspberry, spice-box and licorice in a full-bodied, voluptuous and hedonistic style. It will knock your socks off on release, yet keep for a decade. (JD)
Vivid ruby-red. Highly expressive red fruit liqueur, lavender, Asian spice and mineral aromas display impressive clarity and pick up a deeper licorice nuance with air. Sappy, incisive raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show excellent depth, conveying a surprisingly delicate touch and a hint of candied flowers that emerges on the back half. Silky and seamless in texture, finishing with superb finishing lift and persistence, while smooth tannins lend gentle grip. (JR)
The core of mulled currant, raspberry and blackberry fruit is still reserved for now, while anise, tobacco and warm stone notes play out. (JM)
