Hailing from the foggy redwood-flanked hills of Annapolis, this is a powerful coastal pinot noir, the flavors rooted in a firm, tannic bite that slowly transforms into black, peppery spice, energizing the wine’s ripe raspberry flavor. It’s fresh yet muscular, and could stand up to lamb chops.
The 2015 Pinot Noir Campbell Ranch Vineyard is another very tightly wound, compact wine. It will be interesting to see if the 2015 fleshes out with more time in bottle. Today, it is a bit lean and unexpressive. Still, there is a good bit of energy and overall character coming through. 90+ points. This is another strong set of wines from Anthill Farms. Low yields are the theme of the 2015 vintage here, as they are pretty much everywhere. Pinot Noir was hit the hardest... The Anthill wines all see a good bit of whole clusters in fermentation (30-50%) and are handled minimally in the cellar. Because of that, the wines can sometimes be a bit cloudy in the bottle. These wines are gorgeous expressions of some of the top vineyard sites in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. (AG)
