The 2015 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets Saint Georges has a tightly wound, floral bouquet - hints of violet, strawberry jam, even a light smear of marmalade coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and is complex: a mixture or red and black fruit seamlessly knitted together, leading to a concentrated but structured, classically-styled finish with fine salinity. This comes highly recommended, a pure and crystalline Nuits St Georges from one of its best vineyards. It comes highly recommended.(NM)
This red combines flavors of cherry, currant, spice and mineral with a core of sweet fruit, a silky texture and firm, chalky tannins. Finishes on the chewy side, with mouthcoating but not astringent tannins. Best from 2023 through 2040.
While writing my profile on Domaine Gouges last year, I finally came to realize just how much I love the Clos des Porrets bottling here, and the 2015 is destined to be one of the reference point vintages of this fine cru in the years to come. This and the remainder of the cellar was still in cask and had not yet been racked. The bouquet on the 2015 Clos des Porrets is utterly superb, wafting from the glass in a classy blend of red and black cherries, plums, bitter chocolate, a great, complex base of soil tones and a touch of currant leaf in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure on the attack, with a rock solid core of fruit, laser-like focus and a very, very long, fine-grained and vibrant finish. This will be a stunningly elegant and sappy example of Clos des Porrets at its apogee and should prove to be a very, very long-lived wine. 2025-2075.
(a 3.5 ha monopole with 30+ year old vines). A notably ripe nose of cassis, black cherry, humus and earth possesses fine complexity. There is outstanding volume and mid-palate concentration to the powerful and mouth coating middle weight flavors that exhibit a subtle minerality on the sappy, dusty, energetic and beautifully persistent finish. This is a classic Nuits that is built-to-age and will need it. 2030+
Good dark red. Aromas of blackberry and licorice show a spicier quality than the 2016 version. Large-scaled, voluminous and fine-grained, offering classically dry flavors of dark berries and chocolate. A serious, deep Nuits-Saint-Georges with little easy sweetness--and not at all showy in the early going. The supple but substantial tannins will need time. This wine has a fairly high pH of 3.6 but displays a juicy aspect that augurs well for its future life in bottle. 91+ points. (ST)
Lush, succulent cherry nose packed with fruit. Suave and fleshy on the palate, with very ripe tannins. This is a sumptuous wine with good depth of fruit, excellent balance and a long, fresh, zesty finish. Drinking Window 2018 - 2028.(SB)
