The Episcopal Wine Estates of Trier formed in 1966, when the Cathedral of Trier merged its vineyards with those of two nearby seminaries. Now accounting for 242 acres, the estate has holdings in some exalted vineyards, including Scharzhofberger. Cellarmaster Johannes Becker turned out an extravagantly fruity riesling from that vineyard in 2015, spinning intense mineral tones with creamy pineapple and passionfruit flavor. It holds its flavors for days, gaining in clarity.
