Crackerjack blend of grenache, shiraz and zinfandel. Pure licorice and raspberry, ribbons of spice, charcuterie and dark chocolate. Coffee grounds too perhaps. It takes deliciousness and wraps both arms around it. And yet it's firm with tannin too. A complete package.
(70 percent French and 30 percent American oak, all of it used) Brilliant violet. Ripe cherry, blueberry and peppery spices on the nose; a hint of candied licorice emerges slowly. Juicy and open-knit, showing good depth to the black and blue fruit flavors. A subtle vanilla note appears on the finish, which features harmonious tannins and a hint of smokiness. (JR)
Pale to medium garnet-purple colored, the 2015 The Stray Mongrel Grenache Shiraz Zinfandel has expressive spice box and incense notes over kirsch, dried mulberries and Sichuan pepper aromas. Medium to full-bodied, it has mouth-filling baking spices and red and black berry preserves flavors supported by rounded tannins, finishing with lingering pepper hints. (LPB)
