Writing about this historic winery, with its seemingly imperishable 12th century Romanesque chapel rising heavenwards above the vines, always evokes a sense of timelessness and immutability. And every wine produced here, from their imposing single vineyard Gigondas bottlings to the expressive, super-value Cotes du Rhones, capture both the unique terroir and character of this estate. Aged entirely in tank, yields were lower than the superb 2015 vintage, promising even more concentrated Syrah fruit, with high-toned aromas of black cherry, raspberry and red plum, enveloping a lush palate of blackcurrant, truffle, sweet tobacco and licorice. Fine acidity holds everything in place. A ravishing Rhone bargain, I expect this delectable Syrah to take wing!
