Reduction presently dominates the nose. Here too there is excellent volume to the broad-shouldered and overtly powerful flavors that possess excellent richness and mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a serious, rustic, powerful and austere finish that delivers flat out terrific length. This is a big and imposing wine that is clearly built-to-age and is going to need it so plenty of patience will be necessary if you intend to hold it to maturity. *Sweet Spot*
The 2014 Corton les Renardes Grand Cru contains 50% whole bunch fruit and is matured in 80% new oak. That wood is neatly carried by the fruit on the nose, a mixture of red and black berries, briary and a hint of bacon fat. The palate is medium-bodied with supple black fruit, fine tannin, nicely focused with a rounded, satisfying, iodine-tinged finish. This is a fine Corton in the making. (NM)
