Bright ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, black cherry, licorice and spicy oak come across as a bit less deep than those of the Nuits Boudots. Juicy and smooth but restrained, with a bit of chocolatey oak apparent today. Very ripe but not especially thick. Finishes with building tannins that are a bit less harmonious than those of the Boudots, as well as a repeating chocolate note. Conveys the warmth of the vintage, with moderate density. This is the first time that Meunier included some young vines in the blend, and they were picked at close to 14%.
A deeply pitched nose offers up notes of cassis, plum, wild blueberry and plenty of earth and sauvage characters. The medium weight plus flavors possess excellent size, weight and power before culminating in a serious and firm, indeed even chewy finish. Even so, this manages to remain balanced and overall this built-to-age effort is really quite good. 2027+
