The nose of this wine is ethereal, dried, wild strawberries that drift not pour out of you glass, they’re seductive, and they make me keep going back to the nose over and over. On the palate the wine is supple and medium bodied, yet when I write medium-bodied the words make it sound weak which it isn’t. The flavors are spice laden, red fruit, not precise but deckle edged that amplify the texture. The finish is elegant, it is however full flavored replaying the wild strawberry and savory notes. I’d love to drink this wine.

I don't have enough hyperbole to accurately describe how impressive Mount Eden is. It has always been a personal go to for a special bottle of Santa Cruz Mountain wine in any varietal they make. The 2014 pinot is no exception. It's very lively and fresh, but is really marked by a more savory tone than I remember from great vintages in the past. Given that I typically expect those flavors to develop with time in the cellar I'm thrilled to see what kind of added complexity this will have in due time.

A perennial top quality California Pinot, Mount Eden's 2014 PN shows quite forward and intense red fruits on the palate. I found the wine to be direct and straightforward, not yet unfurling layers of complexity but clearly possessing the usual good stuff for this bottling. While I'm sure many people will love it now, I would love to see it shed some of its baby fat and gain some more poise and complexity, which I'm sure it will in due time.

This is an elegant and silky Pinot Noir from one of my favorite California producers. It shows elegance and balance, yet is bright and fresh and wonderfully classic. Jeffrey Patterson has rocketed to the top of my list of all-time favorite winemakers in CA for his light hand, terroir-driven style. He knows the Santa Cruz Mountains well and this wine reflects his expertise.
