It's not easy being green - that is unless you're a frog, or, in this case, Frog's Leap. The Rutherford winery has been farming its vineyards organically since 1988, and they also dry farm nearly 200 acres, saving water, too. This winery might have a fun personality, but it doesn't mean they don't take winemaking seriously. Consciously avoiding the tendency toward over-extracted, super-sweet Zinfandels, Frog's Leap aims to let the fruit's natural character shine. About the 2015 in particular, from the winery: "It is tempting to think of 2015 as a continuation of the drought years so highly reported in California. In fact, in Napa, there was ample rainfall to support full ripening with normal production. The real story of the vintage was a period of very warm weather in late August that rushed the Zinfandel harvest. The results, counter-intuitively, were not a bigger, brawnier Zin but rather a lighter, fresher style. Something very reminiscent of the late 1980s Frog’s Leap Zins that are still drinking beautifully today."
