Tasting Notes

Hermanuspietersfontein's "No.3 - Bergblokke" or "Mountain Block" tends to produce pure, concentrated, fruit-driven wines presenting fine citrus, gooseberry, kiwi, litchi and melon aromas and flavors. A dash of neutral barrel fermented Semillon is added to balance the Sauv Blanc's overt nature and enhance palate texture. This is a super refreshing wine with lots of juicy fruit, zesty acidity and intense wet stone minerality. 2015 is another outstanding vintage. HPF was the creation of master of Sauvignon Blanc winemaker Bartho Eksteen. Bartho is known in South Africa as: "the Sultan of Savvy"..."The Sage of Sauvignon Blanc"...and even "Monsieur SB"! He was voted Top Winemaker in South Africa and is a leading member of the Cape Winemakers Guild. In 2015 Batho's story entered a new chapter. He handed the reins of HPF to a winemaking protégé Wilhelm Pienaar and then stepped aside to focus on his winemaking school grooming the next generation of South Africa winemakers! Don't be fooled by the low price, this is seriously top notch wine. An exceptional value that is very hard to beat thanks to our direct import cutting out almost 50% of the costs! Possibly one of the best deals in the store, "HPF" not only has everything you want in a crisp, refreshing little Sauvignon Blanc, but also is yards ahead of almost any other wine this price in sheer quality. Avoiding the stylistic pitfalls of being either over-ripe in fruit, or too vegetal, this is the perfectly balanced expression of the varietal. As is traditional for many top Sauvignon Blancs around the world, just a touch of Semillon has been added to fill out the texture a bit on the wine. In my opinion, it's the perfect highlight to this fresh, zesty and melon fruit-laden Sauvignon Blanc.

Absolutely lovely SB from a producer who knows a thing or two about such wines. This delightful bottle shows off beautiful rich fruit on the nose, ripe melon and stone fruit competing for dominance. Still, on the palate, the richness of the fruit is tempered and driven by bright zesty acid and plenty of stony minerality. This is plenty of wine and the price is perfect for stocking up on.
