Trinity Hill has been one of the wineries pioneering inland portions of Hawke's Bay for Pinot Noir production. This is a medium-bodied, silky rendering of the variety, showing delicate and complex notes of cherries, sous bois and beet greens. *Editors' Choice* (JC)
One notable Hawkes Bay wine is the spicy 2014 Trinity Hill Pinot Noir Hawkes Bay (90 points, SRP $17), with accents of fresh tomato leaf to the crisp wild berry-flavored core. Winemaker Warren Gibson points to a blend of different clones and the use of partial whole-bunch fermentation as a way of getting complexity without extensive barrel aging. "Whole-bunch is the key to making wine at this price point," Gibson explains. "We're not a fancy-pants winery. We learned how to make wine more traditionally." (MW, Web-2016)
