My favorite of the reds, the 2013 Côtes du Rhône Domaine de Fontbonneau is medium-bodied and lightly textured, with a sappy quality in its lavender, spring flowers, mint and strawberry aromas and flavors. Made from 95% Grenache and 5% Syrah, completely destemmed and aged 18 months in barrels, it needs six to 12 months in bottle to round into form and will drink well for 5-7 years. (JD)
Features a well-integrated toasty edge, showing ample energy to the core of black cherry and blackberry fruit, all backed by a brambly, anise-fueled finish. (JM)
