This is a DP that shows the ripeness of the 2009 vintage yet remains full of energy. Gorgeous aromas of cream, apple, mango, honeysuckle, and chalk follow through to a full body and super fine, tight texture. Dense and agile. Vinous. It’s like a top grand cru white Burgundy. Think Bâtard-Montrachet. More depth than the 2006.
Unbroken sun through August and early September helped to shape an idyllic harvest, on 12th September. Superb maturity of fruit in flawless health has produced a wine with wafting scents of both fresh and confit of spiced lemon and wild cherry. Despite the heat, the wine has freshness, vitality and length. Still a youngster, this will grow greatly by 2019. A more stylish son of the '03, and cousin of the slender and charming '06. (ME)
There's a subtle power to this graceful Champagne, which boasts a firm, crystalline frame of acidity married to the fine, satinlike mousse and notes of white raspberry, brioche and Earl Grey tea. Seamless through to the long finish of smoke and spice accents, this opens beautifully in the glass. Drink now through 2029. *Collectibles* (AN, Web Only-2017)
The 2009 Dom Pérignon is going to be one of those atypically generous vintages of this bottling in its youth, as the warm, “solar year” of 2009 will make this a star to drink relatively early on. The superb bouquet wafts from the glass in a mix of apple, peach, a touch of orange zest, salty minerality, fruit skin, a touch of iodine and a gently floral topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very, very long and precise, with a bit more of a fruit-forward personality than most releases, coupled with excellent grip and focus on the backend. The mousse is tight and utterly refined, as is the case with every vintage of Dom Pérignon. A superb wine. This is one vintage where it will not border on a crime to drink the wine young! The 2009 Dom Pérignon is open, seductive and radiant, as it has always been. Soft curves, mid-weight structure and tons of plain allure make the 2009 impossible to resist in its youth. This bottle, the best I have tasted so far, offers a distinc citrus and floral-driven profile that adds a good deal of brightness. Above all else, the 2009 is a gorgeous Champagne to drink now and over then next few decades. This is the first time in the house’s history that a vintage was not released sequentially. (AG) 94+
The 2009 Dom Pérignon is already drinking well, exhibiting expressive aromas of ripe apple, peach, Meyer lemon, marzipan and dried white flowers that are framed by the classic nutty, autolytic notes that so often define this cuvée. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a broad attack, a brisk and refined mousse, appreciable dry extract and a notably saline finish. While this is a comparatively ample, gourmand vintage of Dom Pérignon, there's sufficient concentration and structural tension—which has become more apparent with a bit of bottle age—to suggest that this may be surprisingly long lived. ‘We’re trying to understand ripeness and put even more depth and density into the wines’, according to Chef de cave, Richard Geoffroy. For the first time they decided to switch the order of release, and release this before the 2008 – mostly because the 2008 was not ready. Rich and exuberant. This is a wine that’s already approachable, has integrated considerably since it was launched, and is so extrovert it’s almost doing a cancan. (JR) 18/20 points
