The coastline along Malibu is filled with casual outdoor seafood restaurants. I frequent these locations on my day off (Monday) and Muscadet is my common companion. Watching the waves while feasting on fresh fish requires refreshment and the simple glory of Muscadet is hard to beat. While some may consider these wine as a mere simple refresher, it’s obvious that if you go deeper, the better producers craft superior wines that will catch your attention. The clean purity of this wine reminds me of the finest Finnish mineral water, with salinity, a spritz of citrus, and a lightly waxy texture. With some aeration, the wine becomes more and more complex.

Absolutely classic. Very crisp, lots of minerality and even a touch of salinity. A merveille with oysters!

When we tasted the Expression Du Pallet from Bedouet, I imagined myself in front of a giant plateau de fruits de mer on the coast of Brittany. This wine has serious white fruit power, with a small hint of honey, but is backed by the kind of minerality and nutty lees quality that I usually only expect from expensive Champagne. The values in Muscadet have long been touted here at K&L, but this has an extra special element. What a bottle!

Just in time for Dungeness crab season, this fresh, mineral driven offering from Bedouet is the perfect accompaniment to a heaping plate of crustaceans! Notes of chalk, lemon flesh and salted ripe pineapple provide a clean, bright palate with zippy acidity. This would also make a natural pairing for rich cheese, oysters and fish in beurre blanc.
