Ripe cherry fruit is cut by touches of rust and turned soil on the inviting nose of this bottling. The mouthfeel is thick and grippy, carrying rounded berry flavors, a hint of baking spice and some dried thyme on the back end. (MK)
Vivid red. Aromas of black raspberry, cherry and cocoa powder, with hints of woodsmoke and underbrush emerging with aeration. Juicy and supple in texture, offering ripe red berry and mocha flavors that deepen on the back half. A touch of vanilla adds sweetness to a nicely persistent, gently tannic finish, with the mocha note echoing. (JR)
Offering a mix of dried berry, black tea, spice and loamy earth flavors, this succeeds, delivering moderately ripe fruit and loamy tannins. Best from 2019 through 2024. (JL)
Lastly, the 2016 Pinot Noir Hahn SLH is a good value and has real Pinot Noir style in its forest floor, spice, and dark earthy red and black fruits. With good acidity as well as mid-palate depth, it would be ideal as a house red.
