K&L Notes

Averaen Pinot Noir comes from the folks at Banshee, and is made in Oregon by winemaker Adam Smith, who made Banshee's first batch! They always make a spot-on quality-for-price Pinot, and we're excited to see them in action in Oregon. The winery's vintage notes: "Not unlike the vintages preceding it, 2016 was an early harvest with immaculate fruit conditions yielding almost no disease or bird damage. Thanks to a warm spring, condensed flowering and a record-setting hot August, we were afforded the ability to pick our 'early risers' at ideal flavor maturity, while our later ripeners at higher elevations could unfurl their character more slowly with very little disease or bird pressure. Vintages like 2016 that present us with such a large harvest window has led to wines of incredible complexity, representing the uncanny diversity of the Willamette Valley."

From the folks at Banshee, this offering is from one of their newer venture in Oregon's Willamette Valley. The brand Averaen, is wonderful at showcasing what Oregon Pinot Noir can be. Ripe and candied notes of red berries and cherries, intermingle with earthy mushroom and forest floor tertiary characteristics. What is incredibly pleasing of the 2016 vintage is the length of it., allow for ripeness of fruit to develop and freshness to still remain intact. And for under-$20, this continues to be one of our best values in store!

The second vintage now from the producers of Banshee, for those who love the Pinot being grown in the Willamette valley. The Averaen showcases ripe fruit with hints of candy and cherry cola; these rich notes are balanced by acid and tannin. The richness that Banshee is known for is integrated into the structure that Pinot from this area is famous for. This is an instantly friendly and easy to love wine from people of whom we have long been fans. Overall this is a balanced and lovely Pinot Noir just in time for the holidays.

Once again Banshee and folks have knocked out of the ball park. The philosophy of growing grapes with sustainable practices and a hands-off wine making approach shows on this wine. The wine is lush and elegant and takes on the volcanic characteristic of its soil. Rustic, but rich on the palate, this Pinot Noir gives you all the talking points of spectacular Willamette pedigree. Ripe juicy cherries, a meaty earthiness and silky tannin can all be found, but the complexity of spice, cocoa, and quality of fruit are what impresses most.
