Tasting Notes

From a complicated vintage that turned out some real gems: "David Duband, who now exploits, among other vines, the former Jacky Truchot parcels, told me that 2011 was a vintage that 'started out wonderfully and was great until June but July and August were pretty much terrible. Despite the lousy weather I was more than agreeably surprised by the relative absence of disease pressure. We began picking on the 2nd of September and not only did we have very good phenolic maturities and acid levels but very little sorting was required, in fact I would put our sorting losses at less than 5%, which is basically what we experience in the best vintages from a cleanliness standpoint. Potential alcohols were all over the place, ranging from a low of 11% to a high of 13%. I used from 30 to 60% whole clusters and did a 22 to 23 day total cuvaison. As to the wines themselves, they are built on their fruit and should have medium cellaring horizons. I like the wines as they should offer something for everyone, from the neophyte to the classicist.'" (Allen Meadows' Burghound, 01/2013)
