The blue and black fruit aromas are ripe but the impression is cooler and the palate impression is also slightly more reserved with its supple, rich, sweet and suave texture and flavors that possess good if not exceptional depth on the punchy finish. There is a firm core of underlying structure yet the density is such that the tannins seem less prominent.
Both significantly darker in color and in shade of fruit than the wines that preceded it, the Bize 2005 Savigny-les-Beaune Les Marconnets features blackberries, walnut oil, wet stone, wood smoke, and roasted meats. Fuller and fatter than its stable mates, this is also somewhat more obvious in tannin than most of Bize’s wines. But it displays impressive density, fine structure and incipient complexity and should reward 8-12 years of cellaring. (DS)
