Tasting Notes

From the incredible 2016 vintage in the Alto Adige, this is aromatic, has superb body and is balanced, while showing great minerality. The Pinot Grigio from this producer has a bit more fruit, but this Grüner is a bit spicier.

Sharing a boarder with Austria, the Alto Adige is home to beautiful, fresh, grapes that we may think are more German than Italian. But this GV from the Bressanone Valley Basin is filled with bold aromatics, spice and fresh citrus fruits. The vineyards are at the highest elevation of the Basin and the wine is vinified in stainless steel keeping that fresh and focused feel to the wine. While fermenting with indigenous yeast, the wine becomes a little more earthy, spicy and aromatic.

An absolute pleasure. Not even the Austrians to the north can match the exceptional value of this stupendous little Gruner. It's varietally correct and so approachable, but not at all boring or derivative. The nose is all juicy white and yellow berries with subtle floral and strong mineral components. The palate is vibrant with a linear acidity that keeps this lifted and super thirst-quenching. It has that Gruner crunchiness but it's not at all austere. A great value and a super wine to open literally any time regardless of what's being served or the mood in general.
