On a recent trip to Burgundy I found myself quite enamoured with the wines of Auxey-Duresses ("ox-say doo-ress"), a small village in the Cote de Beaune, where some really good wines with prices that still make sense are being produced. Everything I tasted was fresh and balanced, and just very pleasant to drink. Jacques Bavard has made this superbly approachable wine that has so much flavor and texture with a good dose of that Bavard finesse. Succulent ripe golden apple and honey flavors coat the palate, gentle oak gives roundness but not flavor. 2015 was a hot and dry vintage, but there is plenty of supporting acidity here that balances everything out. I love this wine - it's delicious and represents that Auxey-Duresses charm perfectly. This region may not be on your radar but the time to get on board is now. As more people continue to seek the values in Burgundy the prices here will keep increasing.
