Coming from the Wahluke slope and 100% Syrah fermented (all native) with no destemming and aged in 30% new 500-liter or larger barrels, the 2014 Syrah The Deal Sundance Vineyard has a killer bouquet of black pepper, currants, blueberries, graphite and dried herbs. Full-bodied, seamless, pure and with no hard edges, it is indeed a screaming "deal"!
Good dark red. Lovely dried rose and violet topnotes to the aromas of raspberry and cherry. Juicy, spicy and penetrating, conveying a light touch and a captivating floral quality to its red fruit flavors. Not a fat or particularly expansive style of Syrah but boasts terrific intensity and finishes with fine-grained tannins and excellent rising length. This is one of K's rare "flood" wines (i.e., from a vineyard situated below about 1,250 feet, the maximum height reached by the water during the Missoula Floods), featuring black volcanic sand under sandy loam topsoil, according to Brennon Leighton.
This wine's crushed herb, mineral and blackberry aromas lead to intensely rich, full-bodied black fruit and smoked meat flavors. It's big and bold and ready for steak.
