(September malo) Deep red-ruby. Very ripe, musky aromas of blackberry, black raspberry and chocolate; slightly reduced. Then dense, dry and very young, communicating a saline impression of extract. Powerful but not yet harmonious. Finishes chewy, complex and long, with a vibrating aftertaste. (ST)
As one would reasonably expect, this is much more elegant with its cool, pure and highly complex nose of wet stone, red and blue pinot fruit and earth hints that can also be found on the detailed, vibrant and tension-filled flavors that culminate in a finish that offers up a real sense of relief. This should benefit from 8 to 10 years of cellar time.
Alluring, iris-like floral notes mingle with fresh red and black berries and hints of smoke in the nose of Jadot’s 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Estournelles St.-Jacques, then follow on a glycerin-rich, brightly fruited, pungent palate, tinged with brown spices and salt. The overall effect here is one of vintage-typical vibrancy; dynamic interaction; and a complexity such as is associated with the much more expensive wine from neighboring Clos St.-Jacques. I would anticipate at least a dozen years of fascination. (DS)
The 2008 Estournelles had been racked at the start of September and was very much on form in November. This is a very fine and classically black fruity wine in this vintage, as it offers up a complex bouquet of cassis, dark berries, espresso, black minerality and woodsmoke. On the palate the wine is medium-full, long and nicely transparent, with suave tannins, good mid-palate depth and impressive length and grip on the focused and nicely nuanced finish. This will be classy and not need a whole lot of cellaring time before it really starts to drink well. (Drink between 2015-2035)
