The 2010 Charmes-Chambertin is round, sensual and totally seductive. Silky tannins frame a core of freshly cut roses, mint, red berries, licorice and sweet spices. Whereas the Clos de la Roche is all about power, the Charmes is pure seduction. Sweet floral notes are laced throughout the expressive finish. The Charmes is made from a parcel in Mazoyeres. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. (AG)
(from 80 year-old vines in Mazoyeres) A highly complex, ripe and very fresh, cool and airy nose mixes a variety of red berries, underbrush and earth before dissolving seamlessly into textured, powerful and impressively precise large-scaled flavors that brim with old vine sap. The presence of the stems is evident as the tannins are very firm yet the phenolic ripeness is excellent and this also culminates in an explosive finish of outstanding balance and length. I quite like this because while it's definitely robust, it's not rustic. Drink 2025+
