The 2015 Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard is a wine of real distinction. Powerful and deep, but not overdone in any way, the 2015 captures the stylistic middle ground of intense fruit and savoriness that is the single most distinguishing characteristic of Ballard Canyon Syrahs. The 2015 is not an especially big wine for the appellation, but rather a Syrah of impeccable balance and class. I loved it. Another year or two in bottle will only help the wine come together even more fully. (AG)
A smoking value, the 2015 Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard (100% Syrah aged in 40% new French oak) is a ripe, sexy, exuberant red that has more texture than most. Blueberry, black raspberry, spice and white pepper notes flow to a rounded, plush, straight-up delicious Syrah with enough underlying depth and density to warrant a year or two of bottle age.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard opens with violets, dark chocolate and peppered salami notes over a core of warm blackberries and black cherries, plus a touch of tar. Big, full-bodied and richly fruited in the mouth, it has a solid backbone of firm, rounded tannins and a long spicy/savory finish. (LPB)
