This is an intensely coloured and richly fruited shiraz made using organic grapes with no preservaCves. It is gorgeously fragrant on the nose showing blackberry, plum jelly, dark chocolate, hazelnut and floral aromas, followed by a concentrated palate that is dense and delectable. At its best: now to 2020.
The 2017 NOW by Paxton Shiraz (NOW = Natural Organic Wine) includes no added preservatives. It would be a fantastic choice for anyone interested in seeing how no-sulfur-added wines differ from conventional counterparts. The blackberry and black olive fruit speak louder and clearer, in this taster's opinion, but there's also a dusty, earthy note that's not as attractive. The wine is medium-bodied, with supple tannins and a silky mouthfeel, and hints of mocha on the finish. I'd opt for drinking it over the near term. (JC)
Plump and juicy, with spiced plum, violet and fresh mint notes. Harmonious and balanced, showing plenty of generosity on the long finish. Drink now through 2030. (MW)
