I agree with my esteemed colleague Greg St. Clair that this wines savory character is proudly on full display here. This is a particularly strong showing for Fontesteau. This is the perfect opportunity for the uninitiated to wade into the Bordeaux waters while not spending too much money or getting a wine that needs 10+ years in the cellar. The wine is well-balanced and can hold a light chill making it a summer-time sipping Bordeaux. Don’t over think this wine; it’s delicious, it’s accessible now, and would pair perfectly with a cheeseburger off the grill. This is my kind of Bordeaux.

The nose of this wine shows more earthy savory character than bold fruit. On the palate the wine has superb richness, very supple and round and I find it surprising (and refreshing) that it isn't more fruity. Powerful yet balanced this 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot blend really shows power. The flavors are forest floor, and show a bit of dusty tannin but this is a drinkable wine with a good future. This is your Steak/Frites wine for a Friday night, and I'd go Belgian on the Frites....that means Mayonnaise.

I was super impressed by this almost half and half blend of Cab Sauv and Merlot. It is showing quite lovely now, with nice structure, a clean finish, and rich deep fruit. I am already a fan of the 2015 vintage from Bordeaux and this wine proves why. A classic style with a modern edge and a fantastic under-$20 find.

A nose of savory forest underfloor and chewy oak and cedar leads to a dry palate of bistro ready Haut-Medoc. This is not showy, though it will absolutely show well at the dinner table, with fruit, tannins and savory notes all well represented and in fine balance. C'est bon.

A perfectly aged Bordeaux, showing those beautiful developed aromatics of forest floor, olive and even a delightful note of capsicum. It is ready to go to your table. Grilled lamb with Haricot vert followed by some aged Mimolette and you will be in heaven, for a penny less than $20!

We skipped from the 1998 to this vintage. Both wines are great--maybe they make great wines every 20 years? This is sweet and sexy.
